Honoring Our Heroes: Peace Officer Memorial Week
Each year, during Peace Officer Memorial Week, we come together as a nation to honor and remember the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and serving our communities. Their bravery, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to duty embody the highest ideals of public service.
This week is not only a time of reflection but also a time of gratitude. We recognize the countless sacrifices made by peace officers and their families — sacrifices often made quietly, without recognition, but with immeasurable impact on the safety and well-being of us all. As we honor the fallen, we also extend our appreciation to all those who continue to serve. Their commitment to justice, compassion, and community strengthens the very fabric of our society. Their courage reminds us that the freedoms and security we enjoy are safeguarded by those willing to stand in the gap on our behalf. Throughout this week, we invite you to join us in remembering those who have gone before us, supporting their families, and expressing our heartfelt gratitude to those who continue to wear the badge with honor and pride.
May we never forget their sacrifice, and may we strive every day to live in a way that honors their legacy.

"A Lasting Tribute to the Ultimate Sacrifice During Peace Officer Memorial Week"
In a heartfelt gesture aligning with the spirit of Peace Officer Memorial Week, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgages of families of fallen officers, ensuring they have a secure place to call home. This initiative underscores the foundation's commitment to honoring the bravery and dedication of law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.?
For instance, the Foundation recently paid off the mortgage of the family home of Springfield, MO Police Officer Christopher Walsh, who lost his life in the line of duty while responding to a mass shooting. His wife, Sheri Walsh, expressed profound gratitude, stating, "Knowing that I don't have to leave the home Chris and I built together... is an overwhelming blessing during an overwhelmingly difficult time." ?
Similarly, the Foundation honored Long County, GA Deputy Sheldon Whiteman by ensuring his family's home was paid off, providing them with stability and peace of mind.
These acts of kindness serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers and the importance of supporting their families. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation's efforts exemplify the enduring respect and gratitude owed to those who protect and serve our communities.?

Why I Support
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation?
|
|
I worked in local law enforcement for over 25 years, as a member of both the Bakersfield Police Department and the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. I retired as a Sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office. I enjoyed a rewarding career and made some lifelong friends along the way.
Unfortunately, more than a few of my friends and co-workers lost their lives in the line of duty during my career. I witnessed first hand the dangers of serving and protecting our community and how shattering it could be for the families of those who lost their loved ones.
One of our many deputies killed in the line of duty died on July 25, 2021, when he was shot and killed working with his SWAT team at a multi-hour standoff at a residence in Wasco, CA.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the mortgage on the family’s home as part of its Fallen First Responder Home program. The Tunnel To Towers Foundation also runs a Gold Star Family Home Program and a Smart Home Program to assist wounded veterans and First responders.
