“I’m living in a condo about a mile from where the home is being built. Tunnel to Towers is building me a forever home in my hometown,” said Sgt. Brooks. “I’m looking forward to the kitchen, cooking, having room to store my pots and pans, room out back for a ceramic grill, and a smoker.”
On June 25, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation will welcome U.S. Army National Guard Sergeant William Brooks into his new mortgage-free smart home in Southaven, Mississippi. A lifelong Southaven resident, Sgt. Brooks lost both legs in an IED explosion while serving in Iraq in 2005.
After 13 months of recovery and a medical retirement, he returned home and continued to serve his community for 12 years as a city alderman. Now, thanks to Tunnel to Towers, he’ll be moving into a specially adapted home built for his independence and comfort, complete with smart technology, wide access points, and outdoor space for grilling.

Why I Support The Tunnel To Towers Foundation
|
|
|
I worked in local law enforcement for over 25 years as a member of both the Bakersfield Police Department and the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. I retired as a Sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office. I enjoyed a rewarding career and made some lifelong friends along the way.
Unfortunately, more than a few of my friends and co-workers lost their lives in the line of duty during my career. I witnessed firsthandthe dangers of serving and protecting our community and how shattering it could be for the families of those who lost their loved ones.
One of our many deputies killed in the line of duty died on July 25, 2021, when he was shot and killed working with his SWAT team at a multi-hour standoff at a residence in Wasco, CA.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the mortgage on the family’s home as part of its Fallen First Responder Home program. The Tunnel To Towers Foundation also runs a Gold Star Family Home Program and a Smart Home Program to assist wounded veterans and first responders.
